What would you study in college if you wanted to become an advertising exec.?

Your major should be Advertising and perhaps you can minor in something else like Graphic Design or Marketing...depending on what area of Advertising interests you (the creative or Business). The most important advice I have even though you didn't ask is to back up your Advertising Degree with a lot of internships in the advertising field.
